Exploring the world opened up by a work of art
This week’s showcase:
Elena Zolotnitsky
“After the Shower,” Oil on paper, 24″ x 23.25″ custom framed
Time to reflect is an unexpected luxury of “Isolation.” An expansive opportunity made possible by being forced to stop . . . then listen, look, imagine, feel . . . repeat. Until suddenly, one day, you see things differently, because in fact, you are different.
This painting, “After the Shower,” plops me down square in the heart of reflection. Time has stopped, I’m naked and everything around me is a symbol of subtle import. Objects float in nothing. It’s as if I’m in a dream state. Every hue is vibrant with some sort of grand mystery that somehow is connected to my sense of, well, everything.
And the reflection in the mirror – a revelation cast in the heavy dew after a shower – is full of the anticipation of who I might be or become.
Elena’s evocative paintings draw you into a deeply intimate introspective moment, forcing you to stop, wonder, look, even smell this particular moment in time, letting your senses have their way with you until finally you “come to your senses,” unable to see anything quite the same way ever again.
