Description

Mixed media painting by Christie Marks

‘Everyday India 7 (The Vat) is the newest addition to my On the Road series. It depicts a large vat that is used to wash hand block-printed fabrics. This particular one was at Jai Texart in India, located in Bagru, a tiny village in the state of Rajasthan. The scene was amazing with water splashing everywhere, reflected in the concrete floor. Jai Tex is one of the producers carrying on the ancient method of hand block-printing, using natural dyes imprinted with carved teak blocks.
